Peppermint Oil Blends Well With…. 27 Oils and Blend Recipes


Peppermint oil has such a beautifully invigorating, fresh, minty aroma and blends well with so many other oils! 

Blending peppermint with other oils in your collection brings a wealth of relaxing and restoring benefits! 

I’m going to run through some of my favorite oils which blend perfectly with peppermint. 

Peppermint’s invigorating aroma blends well with floral, spicy, or citrus oils to balance its freshness. Try Lavender, eucalyptus, tea tree, lemon, cedarwood, rosemary, spearmint, orange, grapefruit, geranium, oregano, juniper, Frankincense, nutmeg, cypress, marjoram, vetiver, neroli, and more! 

So here’s the shortlist first to help you more easily understand the oils peppermint blends well with.

Ok so now we’ve got the summary down so you can start blending peppermint oil straight away, let’s look in a little more depth at some of the highlights.

Let’s start with one of the master oils that needs a little introduction, lavender oil! 

Together lavender and peppermint oil blends well 

Lavender’s soothing and wound healing benefits are well known. When mixed with the cooling properties of peppermint, it’s a perfect match for skin damage such as sunburn. 

Lavender’s floral slightly herby scent compliments the spa day aroma of peppermint in diffusers, lava bracelet recipes, tissue blends, and more! 

Together peppermint and lavender blends well to:

Peppermint and lavender sunburn balm 

One of my favorite ways to use this skin healing combo is in a sunburn balm. Add 3 drops peppermint and 3 drops lavender to a tablespoon of aloe Vera gel. Apply frequently to affected areas.

Blend Peppermint oil and eucalyptus 

Peppermints naturally clearing properties mixed with eucalyptus are one of the best blends for reducing congestion from colds, flu, and other respiratory illnesses. Peppermint and eucalyptus in a diffuser have huge restorative and invigorating benefits and work brilliantly in steam inhalation. 

The aromas of both oils are cooling and clearing and instantly soothe blocked sinuses when inhaled. 

Together peppermint and eucalyptus blend well together to: 

  • Relax muscles 
  • Help you to keep mentally switch off 
  • Clears nasal congestion
  • Soothes cold and flu symptoms

My favorite go-to peppermint and eucalyptus blend is a super cheap tissue blend! It’s also perfect to add to lava bracelets too.

Peppermint oil and eucalyptus tissue blend 

Add 5 drops of Peppermint and 4 drops of Eucalyptus to a paper handkerchief or tissue and simply pop it in my bag or pocket. 

It’s perfect to inhale during your day to help clear your airways and clear congestion. 

Or put 3 drops of each oil into a shower tray and let the hot water run for a few minutes before getting in for a spa-like, flu-boosting experience!

Peppermint oil and tea tree antibacterial power 

Tea tree has been used for its antibacterial and antiviral properties for centuries. Many scientific studies have shown its effectiveness in helping reduce germs. It’s used in many popular over-the-counter medicines and has a wealth of medicated compounds! Together with peppermint, they are a bug-busting duo! 

Peppermints’ clearing, minty and fresh aroma adds brightness to tea tree’s medicinal and more balsam aroma in diffusers. 

Confirmation by clinical trials that peppermint is the best oil for removing head lice when coupled with tea tree, it’s a strong contender for the two best oils to keep head lice at bay. 

Together peppermint and tea tree blends well to: 

  • Reduce nail fungal infections 
  • Offer antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties in diffusers and topically 
  • Reduce dandruff 
  • Removes and repels head lice 
  • Kills mouth bacteria 

Peppermint oil and tea tree mouthwash 

Peppermint and tea tree blend well together in my favorite mouthwash! I use this every morning for a zingy fresh start to my day! 

Simply add 5 drops of peppermint and 3 drops of tea tree oil in a screw-top jar with ¼ cup distilled water or boiled and cooled from a kettle. 

Swoosh well around your mouth for around 30 seconds. I usually do this twice for the best effect. 

Blend Peppermint oil and Lemon 

Peppermint, although has an invigorating get-up-and-go aroma, is also known to relax heart rate, reduce blood pressure and reduce anxiety.

When mixed with lemon’s relaxing and calming effects it’s serenity overdrive! 

The spicy, warm uplifting tang of lemon aroma mixes beautifully with the clearer more balsamic properties of peppermint in a diffuser.

  • Relax and calm 
  • Quieten anxious thoughts 
  • Promote focus 
  • Improve mood 

Peppermint oil and lemon relaxing lava bead recipe 

This is one of my favorite lava bead bracelets to feel relaxed and serene all day long! 

Mix 3 drops each of peppermint and lemon oil with 1 teaspoon of jojoba oil and add to a lava bracelet with a cotton wool ball

Peppermint oil and cedarwood blend well 

The zingy, uplifting benefit of blending peppermint and Cedarwood in a diffuser gives one of my favorite spa day aromas! Together they make every day a spa day! The cleansing and rejuvenating experience of both these oils uplift and are a perfect start to your day! 

Peppermint oil and Cedarwood blend well together to: 

  • Improve brain focus 
  • Relax and restore 
  • Increase concentration 
  • Ease muscle tension 
  • Clear the mind of anxious thoughts

Peppermint oil and Cedarwood sleepy diffuser blend 

Mix 8 drops peppermint, 8 drops of lavender in 100mL of distilled or boiled, and cooled water from a kettle to a diffuser. 

Set your diffuser for an hour and relax!

Blend Peppermint oil and rosemary 

Rosemary oil is well known for promoting long lustrous locks and also can help with stimulating hair growth.

Peppermint is also shown by clinical studies to stimulate hair growth and is used in many shop-bought shampoo and conditioners. Together they are perfect for hair health and have many other benefits. 

Together peppermint oil and rosemary blend well to:

  • Stimulate hair growth
  • Help leave hair shiny and glossy 
  • Promote focus and improve study 
  • Deliver a rich source of antioxidants 
  • Bring anti-inflammatory properties 
  • Boost the immune system 
  • Improve blood circulation 

Peppermint oil and rosemary hair mask 

One of my favorite ways to use peppermint and rosemary is on an overnight hair mask. Mix 2 drops of each oil with 1 teaspoon of nourishing carrier oil such as Agan, jojoba, or coconut. 

Rub into the ends of your hair thoroughly and leave overnight. Wash out in the morning with an enriching natural shampoo.

Peppermint oil and spearmint blends well together 

Both of these oils are extracted from types of mint, so it’s not surprising they will blend well together! 

Peppermint oil naturally contains high levels of menthol which is invigorating and helps clear airways. Combined with the relaxing and calming benefits of spearmint, from high levels of camphor, they both relax and revive in equal measures! 

Together peppermint oil and spearmint blend well to: 

  • Relax and restore 
  • Clear sinuses and other congestion 
  • Help to fight infection 
  • Uplift and energise
  • Soothe acne and other skin conditions 
  • Deliver antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal power
  • Help with arthritis pain 
  • Provide immune boosting properties 

One of the best ways to harness the power of these two powerful oil cousins is over a bowl of hot water and inhale deeply! 

Peppermint oil and spearmint vapour blend 

Add 10 drops of peppermint and 10 drops spearmint into around 2 cups of hot (not boiling water) from a kettle.  Pop a towel over your head and inhale deeply for 5 to 10 minutes.

When you’ve finished, add the mix to an electronic diffuser and set it for 1 hour while you get ready for bed.

It will bring almost instant relief to cold and flu symptoms and also stop germs from spreading. 

Peppermint oil blends well with orange to increase energy 

Peppermint helps to improve energy levels and reduce daytime fatigue. So it’s not surprising to discover research shows that natural compounds in peppermint may have beneficial effects on energy. The uplifting properties of orange oil blended with peppermint helps to invigorate, promote mental and physical energy. 

Together peppermint oil and orange blend well to: 

  • Lift a low mood
  • Increase antimicrobial activity
  • Can reduce pain 
  • Stimulate physical and mental energy 
  • Reduce T cells which can cause cancer 
  • Invigorate and energise in a diffuser blend 

One of my favorite ways to use the comforting citrus aroma of orange along with the energizing compounds in peppermint is in a room spray 

Peppermint oil and orange room spray 

Blend 10 drops of peppermint and 8 drops of orange oil in an 8oz spray bottle ( preferably the amber glass kind). Fill the bottle with rose water or distilled water from a boiled and cooled kettle and mix well. 

Blend peppermint oil and grapefruit oil together 

The uplifting aroma of both grapefruit and peppermint puts you in mind of a beautifully sunny day! 

Grapefruit’s citrus burst blends well with the sharper and minty blast of peppermint oil. Both oils are perfect in diffuser blends when you need a mood lift! Grapefruit oil has been shown in scientific studies to balance mood. 

Peppermint oil and grapefruit blend well together to: 

  • Lift mood
  • Decrease blood pressure 
  • Help with acne symptoms 
  • Reduce the severity of stomach ulcers 
  • Deliver powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial properties

I use grapefruit oil and peppermint oils in so many ways during the summer months and love to start my day with an uplifting diffuser blend! 

Summer morning diffuser blend 

Mix 8 drops of peppermint oil with 8 drops of grapefruit and 100mL of distilled or water boiled and cooled from a kettle. 

Set your diffuser for an hour while you get ready for your day.

Peppermint oil and geranium are a perfect blend 

Geranium oil is literally one of my very favorite oils as it has such a gorgeous aroma and so many benefits! 

Its gentle floral scent blends so well with the more balsam and minty aroma of peppermint in all kinds of diffuser blends, room sprays and is wonderful in massage blends. 

Together peppermint oil and geranium oil blend well to:

  • Help with anxiety and depression 
  • Reduce fungal and bacterial infections 
  • Provide anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties 
  • Treat pain 
  • Reduce fatigue 

A peppermint oil and geranium room spray can help to lift your mood, stop germs spreading and also help you feel more energized!  With the added benefit of a gorgeous floral and uplifting aroma.

Peppermint oil and geranium room spray 

Blend 6 drops of peppermint oil with 6 drops of geranium in a 4oz spray bottle ( amber glass ones are best) top up with distilled water or rose water. Rosewater adds a lovely extra floral note.

Blend Peppermint oil and clary sage blend together 

Clary sage is one of my super favorite oils as it’s a little miracle in a bottle! 

It’s perfect in diffuser blends and skincare. When blended with peppermint, the cooling tones of peppermint are enriched beautifully with the floral, slightly nutty, and herbal fragrance of clary sage. 

In clinical trials, it’s been shown to lower blood pressure so it’s perfect in a relaxing diffuser blend with peppermint. 

Peppermint oil and clary sage blend well together to: 

  • Relax and restore 
  • Create uplifting diffuser blends
  • Help with anxiety and low moods 
  • Reduce stress 
  • Improve circulation 
  • Deliver antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant power 
  • Heal tummy upsets, nausea and flatulence
  • Boost the immune system 

These two oils are a powerhouse in reducing tummy upsets. This is one of my favorite vapor blends when I’m feeling a little queasy or if I have over-indulged with food! 

Peppermint and clary sage vapor blend 

Add 10 drops of peppermint oil and 10 drops of clary sage to two cups of hot ( not boiling) water. 

Pop a towel over your head and inhale deeply for 3 to 5 minutes. I like to put the blend into my diffuser afterward and switch it on for half an hour.

Peppermint oil and Cypress work together well 

Cypress is a little-known oil packed full of benefits. Its scent is slightly fruity herby with a touch of spice and blends well with many oils. 

When mixed with peppermint oil in a diffuser, expect a spicy but slightly cooling aroma! 

Cypress is best known as an antispasmodic so when mixed with peppermint oil it helps to calm muscles and also reduce congestion.  

Peppermint oil and cypress blend well together to: 

  • Ease congestion 
  • Support the immune system 
  • Reduce cough symptoms 
  • Help with respiratory illness such as bronchitis 
  • Provide antiviral antioxidant  and antibacterial support 
  • Prevent bacteria and germs spreading

Mix peppermint oil and juniper 

Peppermint and juniper share the fact they are both used extensively as flavorings in foods. The botanicals in gin are often provided by juniper oil and we have long used toothpaste containing peppermint oil. 

The herby and balsam scent of juniper is tempered beautifully by the cooling aroma of peppermint in a diffuser, walk through a pine forest! 

This medicated twosome works wonderfully for all kinds of respiratory illnesses to clear congestion and have strong pain-relieving qualities.

Together peppermint oil and juniper blend well to: 

  • Inhaled to treat bronchitis
  • Numb pain
  • Reduce sebum in skin 
  • Deliver antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant power 
  • Provide anti inflammatory compounds 
  • Prevent and treat acne 

I love rollerballs as they are the perfect size to carry around and harness the benefits of my favorite oil blends. This one is perfect if you can feel a cold or sniffles coming on. 

Peppermint and juniper ‘protect’ rollerball blend 

Add 5 drops of peppermint and 3 drops of juniper to a 10mL rollerball. Top up with water boiled from a kettle, rose water or witch hazel ( I love the botanic aroma from witch hazel in this blend best and it’s also so nourishing!) 

Blend peppermint Oil and Frankincense 

Frankincense is not called ‘The King Of Oils’ for nothing! It’s spicy ancient benefits have been used in medicines and well-being for centuries. 

When mixed with peppermint, together they are a powerhouse of oxidants, antibacterial and anti-viral properties! 

The cooling fragrance of peppermint oil lifted up a gear with the richness and oriental aroma of frankincense in a diffuser. 

Peppermint oil and Frankincense blend well to: 

  • Bring antiseptic and antibacterial qualities to blends 
  • Blend perfectly in DIY home cleaning blends 
  • Support respiratory tract illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis and catarrh 
  • Help clear spot and acne breakouts 
  • Perfect for toning skin 

Peppermint and Frankincense face toner 

This is one of my very favorite ways to harness the astringent qualities of both these oils. 

Mix 8 drops of peppermint and 6 drops of Frankincense in a 4oz amber spray bottle. Top up with rose water or witch hazel. I personally love the extra cleansing properties of witch hazel. Spray after cleansing but make sure you avoid eye areas.
