What is orange essential oil?

Orange essential is often better known as sweet orange and is extracted from the rind of Citrus Sinensis, which is the orange we commonly eat. 

Unlike other oils, it’s produced as a by-product of orange juice making by a process called cold-pressing where pressure is added to squeeze out the oils. 

So we can better understand the kinds of oils it blends well with, let’s take a look at some of its properties, starting with its aroma.

Tips for orange essential oil blends

So of course it’s always down to personal preference but it’s fun to experiment and find the best blends for you. 

Remember the amount of drops you add is also a personal preference. You may want to change the number of drops in your orange oil blends to bring another aroma more to the foreground.

1. Orange essential oil blends to pamper your skin – face cleanser

This blend absorbs the humectant properties of Honey and Glycerine. These properties make a great face cleanser leaving a soft and dewy complexion on your skin. 

What you need

  • 4 tablespoons of raw honey 
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable Glycerine
  • ½ cup Ylang Ylang Floral Water
  • 10 drops of Sweet Orange Essential

How to make 

Combine all the ingredients together and store them in a pump dispenser bottle. 

2. Orange essential oil blends to energize or ease tension – roller blend

This is a great blend to unwind a long and tough day. The exotic notes of neroli and sandalwood in this blend along with orange essential oil make a sweet and flowery scent to release tension.

What you need

  • 10 ml Sweet Almond Carrier Oil or Fractionated Coconut
  • 2 drops of orange essential oil 
  • 1-2 drops of sandalwood essential oil 
  • 1 drop of Neroli essential oil 
  • A roller bottle of 10 ml (0.35 oz)

How to make

Add all the essential oils to the roller base. Then fill the bottle with the carrier oil and attach the roller.

Mix the ingredients well with a vigorous shake and apply it to pulse points or areas in your body such as wrists, the temples, bottom of the feet.

Also worth the mention, you can use them whenever you need relief. 

3. Orange essential oil blends to clean your home – linen spray

Apart from being a linen spray for bed sheets, you can even use this blend for carpets, towels, rugs, curtains, and mats.

When cleaning your home, this blend makes a great refresh to any material or fabric between or after washing, especially for linens. 

What you need

  • 8 oz. (235 mL) of distilled water 
  • 8 oz. (235 mL) of Witch Hazel Distillate (A natural cleanser) 
  • 30 drops of orange essential oils (you can use less if you prefer) 

How to make

Fill around half a 16 oz. (470 ml) spray bottle with distilled water. Then fill the bottle with distilled water and hazel distillate along with the desired amount of Orange essential oil. Before spraying into desired fabrics, cap the bottle and shake well to combine all the ingredients. 

4. Orange essential oil blends for body comfort – herbal steam for colds & flu

This is a blend that makes simple herbal steam, ideal to loosen congestion, open up the airways, and provide relief to blocked sinuses.

What you need

  • Boiling water as needed 
  • 3 drops of Orange essential oil 
  • 2 drops of Lemon essential oil 

How to make 

Fill a pot with water and bring to a boil. Once the water is boiling, transfer to a large and convenient heat-proof bowl. Then hold a blanket or large cloth over the head by sitting closer to the bowl – not allowing the heat to escape.

Add the essential oils to the same bowl, close your eyes, bend over and inhale the steam deeply.
